Tensions between Ghana and Nigeria was at its all-time high last week. It started when Ghana’s controversial dancehall artist in a tweet stated emphatically that unlike other Ghanaian musicians he does not see Wizkid as a superstar. This apparently did not sit well with many Nigerians on social who took turns to attack Shatta Wale and woefully anything Ghanaian. Shatta Wale then came back again with an Instagram video signalling a strong warning to the Nigerian fans trolling him.
In another twist fellow Ghanaian artist Sarkodie who was billed to perform at a Dubai concert hosted by Banky W got attacked before he could step onto the stage. What was initially an altercation between entourage of Wizkid and Davido resulted in this attack. It is believed that the entourage of Davido wanted to use Shatta Wale’s sentiments against Wizkid. Rivalry between the two hottest Nigerian acts has soared as they both progress in the music industry.
Shatta Wale came back in a tweet to Sarkodie claiming that the Ghanaian artiste should respect his brand. Sarkodie masterfully rubbished this claim. Apparently Wale seemed to want to drag all Ghanaian musicians and the country in general into his Naija beef. Some in the acts have thrown their weight behind him but none was significant. Well no one with a strong brand will risk it. Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and organisers like Bola Ray are well vested in the Nigerian market and will not have any of it. Compared to these people Wale has a weaker brand internationally and that’s why he acts like he does. But let’s not forget that Wale in a similar plot broke into the Ghanaian industry attacking Samini, Stonebwoy and Award Organisers notably Charter House.
